AGHP Sponsored Full Day Short Course on Rope Access

July 10, 2016 @ 8:30 am - 5:30 pm

This full-day short course developed by the AGHP Rope Access Committee will include both classroom and on-site training. The course is designed to help attendees better understand the unique circumstances affecting rope access/climbing and scaling in a geohazard environment. Learners will: review existing rope access manuals and guides, learn the critical points of slope assessment and have an opportunity to visit sites and evaluate slopes. An integral part of any project on slopes or on the ground is to properly assess the site conditions and hazards or potential hazards that exist. While there are many site safety programs and procedures for working on the ground and on structures, few are available for working on slopes.

Course Curriculum will include:
• review rope-work/climbing manuals & guidebooks
• discuss the vital practice of slope assessment in conjunction with the AGHP Slope Scaling Assessment Form
• review and discuss various slope assessment and climbing safety issues
• take attendees on a slope assessment field trip during which attendees will have the opportunity to evaluate slopes and engage in other related activities.

The $150 fee includes classroom time, field trip, classroom notes (printed), various training manuals and forms (digital), coffee, lunch and transportation.
• Class size will be limited
• Eight hours of continuing education credits issued
• Limited number of scholarships available
This course is intended for Department of Transportation staff, consulting engineers, geologists, and construction contractors specializing in geotechnical and hydrological applications.
