The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has a Rockfall Mitigation Program to identify, evaluate and, ideally, proactively address rockfall hazards to prevent them from happening or from having a larger impact on public safety and infrastructure.
In the video above, some 2013 work along Interstate 75 in Campbell County is shown. Campbell County was the site of a significant rockslide event along I-75 in 2012.
Currently, Tennessee operates a Rockfall Management System. Funds from the RMS support projects that range from large-scale installation of rockfall mitigation structures to hazard reductions based on cleaning up slopes and keeping rockfall catchment ditches clean.
