SUMMARY:Geo-Risk 2017
DESCRIPTION:Geotechnical Risk from Theory to Practice will feature the latest research advances and engineering-practice innovations with a focus on the use of probabilistic and risk methodologies in geotechnical engineering. The conference will include a wide range of knowledge-enhancing keynote\, panel\, and technical sessions\, as well as short courses. \nInterest and use of probabilistic methods and risk assessment tools in geotechnical engineering has grown rapidly in recent years. The natural variability of soil and rock properties\, combined with a frequent lack of high quality site data\, makes a probabilistic approach to geotechnical design a logical and scientific way of managing both technical and economic risk. The burgeoning field of geotechnical risk assessment is evidenced by numerous publications\, textbooks\, dedicated journals and sessions at general geotechnical conferences. Risk assessments are increasingly becoming a requirement in many large engineering construction projects. Probabilistic methods are also recognized in some design codes as a way of delivering reasonable load and resistance factors (LRFD) to target allowable risk levels in geotechnical design. \nCONFERENCE TOPICS \nTopics for Geo-Risk 2017 will include\, but are not limited to: \n\nPractice of risk assessment and management in all fields of geoengineering\nGeohazards such as landslides\, slope failures\, dams and levees\, earthquakes\, and geoenvironmental hazards including those caused by human activity\nReliability-and risk-based code developments\nAdvances in geotechnical Reliability Based Design\nLoad and resistance factor design (LRFD) developments and applications\nAcceptable risk and risk communication including applications to insurance and financial decision-making\nImpact of spatial variability and probabilistic site characterization\nUncertainty relating to geotechnical properties\, models and testing methods\nAdvances in the applications of theory and practice of statistics and probability in geoengineering\nEmerging Topics\n\nGeo-Risk 2017 will prove you with the latest tools\, materials\, and techniques for understanding geotechnical risk. \n\nLearn from top leaders in the industry through special plenary sessions\, panels\, and sessions\nNetwork with your colleagues from around the world\nVisit exhibitors to find the latest tools\, specific to grouting deep mixing and diaphragm walls all in one place\nEarn Professional Development Hours (PDHs) to maintain your professional licensure while gaining relevant focused knowledge\nLast but not least\, experience Denver: sunshine and mountains; history and museums; top restaurants; shopping; and so much more!\n\n
