Thank you for your participation as a member of the Association of Geohazards Professionals during the past year. We hope you found the interaction with the Association and its members rewarding.
The AGHP had a year of tremendous growth. Today, there are more than 180 individual members from 53 engineering companies, 32 public or academic agencies, 10 contractors and 6 manufacturers from 12 countries. In a niche industry such as ours, it really has become a great place to network and collaborate with leading specialists in the geohazard field from around the world.
In 2019 the Association held 5 high-quality webinars covering a range of industry-related topics that included ground anchorage systems, sediment and large wood trapping structures, snow avalanche risk assessment, rockfall simulation and mitigation and geohazard mapping and monitoring. In all, a total of 142 geohazard professionals took part in these webinars. The Association will be holding six more webinars in 2020, along with the addition of a new series of commercial webinars from industry partners.
The AGHP committees continue to be a great place to stay up to date on hot topics and have an influence on initiatives that shape the future of the industry. For example, the Rope Access Committee’s Safety Recognition Program has continued to make its mark on safety culture, with recipients doubling to eight this year. The annual program recognizes companies that develop and implement safe rope access work procedures on dangerous slopes, provide education and training to their personnel, and commit to enhancing the safety culture within their organizations. Next year, we are expanding our recognition concept to include an owner category that would recognize owners that value safe work practices on their projects by requiring safety standards as part of their work contracts.
Lastly, to further enhance the interaction and resources offered by the AGHP, we have begun work on a new members portal for our website. The portal will offer a member’s only area where resources such as past webinars, publications, etc. will be available for viewing. It is expected that this project will be complete in early 2020.
We hope to see you back as a member in what will truly be a spectacular new year at the AGHP! If you are not a member, we encourage you to join the Association!
